Stomach Dangers Being Ignored!

The FDA just made it official: PPI (proton pump inhibitor) medication, one of the most popular drugs on the market, could be more dangerous than we thought.

I would bet that if you know any people, you know someone who is taking a PPI. Nexium, Prilosec, Prevasid, etc… These heartburn and acid reflux drugs often provide relief, but that relief can cost a patient a very steep price in the form of increased health risks and possible heart
failure.

These mediations shut down some of the stomach’s acid producing pumps, which may seem like a great idea if you suffer from heartburn or acid reflux, but in reality is a dangerous way to control those conditions.

Why?

First; Contrary to what you are told or believe, stomach acids are not there to make your life miserable they're
very essential for digesting food and when stopped producing digestion suffers.

Second; Stomach acids perform other important tasks, such as protecting your stomach from C-diff (Clostridium difficile), a bacterium that can trigger severe digestive inflammation and diarrhea as well as other bacteria.

Stomach acid is actually your friend not your enemy!

PPI medications have become the enemy! Some time back the FDA added a warning that hypomagnesemia (a dangerous magnesium deficiency) may occur in patients who take PPI drugs daily for three months to one year. This mineral is absolutely necessary for your heart to function!

The warning only addresses the extremes. That is: extreme use of the drug and extreme magnesium deficiency, when in actuality any use of more than 7 days is a danger.

If you read the insert accompanying the prescription it tells you that the product should not be used longer than 7 days. The drug companies know what will happen!

But the FDA isn't admitting; Hypomagnesemia doesn't develop overnight. They are saying, eight months of PPI use, your magnesium level doesn't suddenly drop off the table. WRONG!

This is a HUGE issue for every PPI user, because even a gradual or small drop in your magnesium level can have negative health consequences.

Magnesium helps heart muscles relax, reduces blood pressure, helps control homocysteine, reduces risk of cognitive decline, essential in growing healthy bones and plays a key role in healthy DNA production.

Magnesium also helps maintain normal insulin levels.
Deplete magnesium levels and you lose one of your key defenses against type 2 diabetes.

Please share this e-mail with anyone you know who suffers from chronic heartburn or acid reflux -- because chances are they're on a PPI (or will be given one soon). And they need a GENUINE warning about the true risks of depleted mineral levels.

But PPIs are not the only option. There are safe
alternatives that don't put you at risk for more serious issues down the road. Read
“Your Amazing Ecosystem” to further learn about the needs and how it affects yourImmune System.

The Cookie Diet... Really?

In the last few years, I've noticed that more people are beginning to embrace the idea that weight loss involves making healthy food choices and lifestyle changes. This comes as welcome news to myself and all of the other dietitians out there who have been trying to promote that very idea for years. But then, another fad diet emerges which starts to cast doubt, and those who have been trying to escape the dieting mentality once and for all begin to wonder if this new plan may just be the one that finally works…..enter the Cookie Diet!

The Cookie Diet is not a new diet or new concept for that matter, but lately it's been getting some attention. It was originally created in 1975 by Dr. Sanford Siegel, a Miami physician who made this diet available to his patients for many years.

The diet premise is fairly straightforward and simple: Eat one low calorie meal a day and 6 pre-packaged cookies purchased at the doctors office for a cost of approximately $56 per week. The cookies have added protein and fiber. People on the Cookie Diet are also supposed to take supplemental vitamins and minerals to prevent any nutritional inadequacies.

Several years ago the website, www.CookieDiet.com was launched. The website was a huge success and then the "cookies" started to become available in stores like GNC or Walgreens. Other "cookie diets" with similar products have now emerged. Throw in a few celebrity endorsements and you have another fad diet on the rise.

The popularity of this or any quick fix diet is not surprising. With the promise of minimal effort and great results, who wouldn't want lose weight by eating cookies? After all, cookies are generally a forbidden food in most weight loss diet plans.

But now for the reality check. The low calorie meal prescribed (fish or skinless chicken with a vegetable) plus the 6 cookies are going to provide 1000 calories or less per day. Can the average person lose weight that way? Of course! Can the average person be healthfully sustained on a diet of 1000 calories or less a day? No. Quick weight loss on very low calorie diets can be unsafe and cause other health problems such as electrolyte imbalances or gallstones.

Weight loss plans that center around a specific food or supplement are hard to stay on for any length of time. Even if the cookies taste really good, most people will quickly tire of eating the same food day after day. When the diet has been abandoned (like its predecessors), what has the dieter learned about making meaningful behavioral change to help them maintain a healthy weight? Probably not very much.

Unfortunately, fad diets do little more than misinform the public and keep the dieting mentality alive. Here are a few pointers to help you spot and avoid the fad diets that are long on promises but short on results:

* Eating plans that suggest elimination of entire groups of foods or elimination of many foods
* Eating plans that are too regimented or have too many http://www.blogger.com/img/blank.gif"rules"
* Diet plans that emphasize supplements or products that take the place of food
* Eating plans that restrict calories below basal metabolic needs (usually less that 1200 calories per day)

There are no quick fixes for people who are trying to lose weight. It takes time, it takes diligence, and it requires change in behaviors that eventually emerge into positive eating and lifestyle habits. Eat well, be well and enjoy a variety of healthy foods!

96.5% Tested Low For This Critical Health Altering Substance

For over a century, iodine has been hailed as the element
necessary for your thyroid hormone production. And clearly, that's crucial to our health.

What is shocking is that one doctor tested more than 4,000 of his patient’s iodine level and a 96.5% tested low for this critical substance.

However, there's so much more to iodine than just thyroid hormone productions.

Without enough iodine, balancing your hormonal or endocrine system it becomes impossible to be healthy, The reproductive – hormone producing – and thyroid systems are directly linked and must be treated in tandem to achieve healing. That health altering fact is not even on the radar with conventional medicine.

Iodine, a mineral, contains potent antibacterial, antiparasitic, antiviral, and even anticancer properties.

While good iodine levels help fight back against cancer, lowered iodine levels provide fertile ground for cancer to begin in your many different hormonally sensitive tissues;tissues of the prostate, thyroid, breast, uterus, and ovaries.

During the early 1900's, there was a high prevalence of goiter - enlarged thyroid - in states bordering the Great Lakes, aka as the 'Goiter Belt’. Based on the outcome of Research done at that time, including studies performed by the state of Michigan, iodine clearly decreased the goiter problem.

Thus, in the 1920's, iodine was added to salt. Soon, the rest of the United States quickly adopted this cost-effective policy of adding iodine to salt to prevent thyroid enlargement.

And although the addition of iodine to the salt supply did lessen the prevalence of thyroid tumors both in the U.S. and worldwide, it is inadequate to supply your body's full need for iodine.

Iodized salt is a poor source of the compound iodide, because it is not very bioavailable for the body.Clickto learn about table salt.

Additionally, due to poor farming techniques, deficiencies of iodine and lacking other minerals in the soil have increased. Obviously, crops grown in iodine-deficient
soil will lack iodine.

And iodine deficiency is not only due to inadequate intake.

Click

_indicating_problem.htm and take a look at symptoms and if you have 3 or more symptoms on one list you can bet you have a thyroid problem. There is also a link on that page to do a home thyroid test that is the most accurate, since blood thyroid testing is wrong more than 70% of the time.
What is so weird is that whether it is hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism the treatment is very near the same. Balance the thyroid and symptoms disappear health improves and in those with tumors, they shrink.

Iodine being a mineral is significant in knowing how healthy or ill you will be. It is a known fact if you are deficient in iodine you are in many other minerals and this will adversely affect your health, now or later! Learn about the ABC”s of minerals to understand why!

Wishing you a very healthy life!

Mediterraneans Face Obesity Despite Their Famous Diet

Mediterraneans Face Obesity Despite Their Famous Diet

Just when it seems like many Americans have begun to embrace the Mediterranean diet for its health benefits, people in the Mediterranean countries are abandoning the traditional way of eating in favor of the "American" diet. Italy, Spain and Greece are now experiencing the obesity epidemic first hand, with Italy having the highest percentage of obese people in Europe today. In Italy and Greece, people today eat roughly four times more meat than they did 40-50 years ago. As people have increased their income during this time period, they have added more meat to their diet, and moved away from the plant-based Mediterranean diet.

These countries have seen an increase in fast food availability and along with this are the marketing and promotion of junk food to their children. An estimated 36% of 12 to 16 year old Italian children are now considered overweight or obese. It seems that Italy’s young people favor fast foods, while ignoring the traditional diet. They are also spending more time in front of the television and are less physically active, like their American counterparts.

It’s really unfortunate that the people of the Mediterranean are abandoning a style of eating that has so much going for it. It’s a plan that has many health benefits, is easy to maintain, and does not skimp on taste or leave you feeling deprived. Highlights of this eating plan include:

* Generous amounts of fruits and vegetables to provide an abundance of vitamins and minerals not found in other types of food.
* High fiber from whole grains, vegetables, fruit, legumes, nuts and seeds.
* Low sugar because fresh fruit is the basis for most desserts in this eating plan.
* Omega 3 fatty acids from salmon and sardines incorporated on a regular basis.
* Increased satiety from olive oil used in cooking and on foods.
* Reduced risk for pre-diabetes, diabetes or insulin resistance due to healthier food choices.
* Versatility for people with or without health issues.
* Plant based foods that provide a wide variety of antioxidants.
* Simple, whole foods rather than highly processed, sodium laden foods.
* Resveratrol and flavinoids from the regular use of wine, which helps increase good cholesterol and prevent blood clotting.

Over the years, the Mediterranean diet has been much studied. The diet, in part, accounts for the longevity and good health found in the people of generations past. Now, for the first time in decades, today’s children may very well have a shorter lifespan, and more chronic health problems than their parents or grandparents. This represents a massive shift in the overall health and longevity of people in just three generations. This trend is predicted in many countries worldwide where obesity rates are climbing at an alarming rate. So although Americans are still considered the fattest people on the planet, it looks like other countries are, sadly, catching up.
